Welcome to ‘Sprouts - Growing Gardeners’, a Gardening Club for children and their carers.

As parents of young children, we have seen the huge amount of fun children have pottering about in the garden and we want to encourage you all to get out there and get your hands dirty! Creating a garden together is a great opportunity to spend time together and has loads of benefits for all involved.

Why the emphasis on fruit and vegetables?

‘Sprouts - Growing Gardeners’ encourages the growth of plants that have particular appeal to children and are environmentally responsible. With the water situation not looking too good it makes sense to use what little we have to produce our own food - no matter on how small a scale. We can actually reduce the amount we have to buy at the supermarket, most of which has travelled hundreds of kilometers, has low nutrient value and doesn’t taste that good!

What does membership provide?

We know how busy parents and carers are and how much energy it takes to come up with activities to keep your children entertained so we’ve done all of the work for you! Every season we’ll send you out a fun-filled ‘sprouts’ pack to get you and your children motivated to get into the garden. We know children can have short attention spans so a monthly e-newsletter, full of more activities, recipes and ideas is great for re-igniting gardening interest! We are passionate about limiting the impact we have on the environment, so you’ll notice that we only print on recycled paper, and there’ll be no plastic toys or unnecessary packaging. Click here to see exactly what you will receive in your pack.

It is a club, not a lecture series so we want you to feel part of it and there’ll be opportunities for you and your children  to contribute in a number of ways. We’ll do a regular club-member’s garden profile so you can showcase your children’s achievements. Club-members will also gain access to a ‘Members-only’ area of this website, where they can see what our mascot ‘Sprout’ has been up to in the garden, enter competitions, download colouring-in sheets and lots more.

We’d love you to join us, so click here now to become a member!

Who can join?

We’d love to have members from all over the world, but gardening conditions vary hugely even within our own country - let alone over continents! There’s just too much information for us to cover properly, so for now we’re sticking with Australia! We are happy to announce that New Zealand residents are now welcome to join!

Are there any other restrictions?

Every season we send out packets of seeds for you to plant and there are strict quarantine rules that we must adhere to for the sake of our native flora and fauna. We will therefore always make sure we send you seeds that are safe for you to plant in your area even if they are different to ones we send to other members.

MEET ‘SPROUT’ THE GROWING GARDENERS MASCOT . . .

Join ‘Sprouts - Growing Gardeners’ and as a member you will be able to login and keep in touch with Sprout and all his friends from the garden. He’ll tell you all about the jobs he’s been doing in the garden and the fun and sometimes scary creatures he’s come across.

This is also where you can tell Sprout about what you have been doing in your garden and even send him pictures! You can enter competitions, download colouring sheets and heaps more.
